AMINOGLUTETHIMIDE - ORAL
(am-EE-no-glue-TETH-uh-mide)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Cytadren
USES: Aminoglutethimide is used to treat Cushing's syndrome and certain types of cancer.
HOW TO USE: This medicatoin must be taken exactly as directed.
Do not raise your dose or take this more often than directed. Do not stop taking this meidcation without your doctor's permission. Your dose may be changed frequently at first to find the best effective dose for you. If side effects become a problem, your dose will be adjusetd.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may casue drowsiness, dizziness, headache, weakness, nausea, or loss of appetite during the first few weeks of treatment.
As your body adjusts to the medication, the symptoms will disappaer. If they conitnue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop any of the following while taking this medication: fainting, rapid heartbeat, itching, skin rashes, yellowing of the eyes or skin, breathing difficulties. Use caution when driving or performing other tasks requirnig alertness as this medication may cause dizziness and drowsiness. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication must be used udner close medical supervision.
Laboratory test will be done periodically to check the effects of this medication.
Aminoglutethimide is not recommneded for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before uisng this medication. It is not known if this drug passes into breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: chickenpox, shingles (herpes zoster), infection, kidney or lvier disease, underactive thyroid. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all presrciption and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: dexamethasone, warfarin, theophylline, medroxyprogesterone. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea and vomiting, unusual drowsiness or dizziness, unusual tiredness, and noticeable rasie or decrease in breathing rate.
NOTES: Do not share this product with othres.
MISSED DOSE: Take any missed dose as soon as possible if remembered wtihin 2-4 hours but not if it is almost time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature and keep away from moitsure and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
